Woodruff & Sons, Inc. is a supplier of crushed concrete road base and other aggregate materials at their Bradenton, FL, Tampa, FL and Michigan City, IN locations.
We introduced the concept of using crushed concrete as an aggregate substitute to the Hillsborough, Manatee, Pinellas, and Sarasota County area in 1985. We were one of the first suppliers to obtain FDOT certification on our material. Since then, we have devoted much time and effort into research and development in order to provide our customers with premium product to be used in granular and stabilized base, engineered fill, Portland cement applications, hot mix asphalt, and surface treatments.
Our material is unique, having a quarry white color and is prescreened to eliminate debris and organic matter, resulting in the cleanest product available in the area. It meets the gradation analysis as listed in FDOT 240-2 and ASTM D2940. Additionally, our product produces consistent minimum LBR values of 180 percent and has been assigned a structural number of 0.18, equaling that of limerock and bank run shell, and exceeding a graded aggregate base of 0.15.
Crushed concrete is available for pickup or delivery from our yards or at remote crushing locations when available. Our portable crushing and screening equipment can even be delivered to your jobsite to crush concrete, stone and demolition material.
Woodruff & Sons, Inc. is a state permitted recyclable concrete rubble and asphalt crushing and collection site. We accept clean concrete rubble and asphalt in our yards, fees may apply. Concrete pipe, structures and rubble with rebar and debris is accepted in our Florida yards with a dumping fee assessed.
Soil Cement
Woodruff & Sons, Inc. is a supplier of soil cement and cement treated base materials at their Bradenton and Tampa Florida locations. Our soil cement and cement treated base material is produced from the finest Portland and aggregates to produce a strong, durable, and water resistant base product for our customers with minimal reflective cracking. It does not permit water intrusion like lime rock or shell base.
The production of our soil cement and cement treated base is always closely monitored to determine proper cement and moisture content, as well as continually laboratory tested to determine proper densities.
Soil cement and cement treated base has advantages over other base materials. Soil cement, like concrete, continues to gain strength with age. Because soil cement base is compacted into a tight matrix during construction, the pavement does not deform under traffic or develop potholes as unbound aggregate bases do. Soil cement is capable of bridging over weak sub-grade areas and is highly resistant to deterioration caused by seasonal moisture changes and freeze/thaw cycles.
Our soil cement and cement treated base has been primarily used as a base course for roads, streets, highways, airports, and parking areas. It is also used as slope protection, ditch lining, and foundation stabilization.
Our portable mixing pug mills can also be delivered to your jobsite to mix soil cement and cement treated base material on location.
